Meet Our Branch Managers and Sheep Security

Every good team needs security, and our sheep have the best in the business. Our two Rafeiro do Alentejo dogs are more than just guardians—they’re beloved members of the G-Agri family. Affectionately known as our “Branch Managers,” these dogs are experts in keeping the sheep safe, protecting them from potential threats, and ensuring they can roam freely with peace of mind. They adore their job and show their love for the sheep with playful licks and nuzzles.

Supplemental Feeding for Top Quality

While grazing forms the foundation of our sheep’s diet, we go the extra mile to ensure their health and productivity by supplementing their feed with special, organic mixes. These custom blends are designed to provide essential nutrients, ensuring that our sheep grow strong and healthy. This attention to detail directly contributes to the high quality of both the meat and the wool we produce, meeting the standards we set for ourselves and our customers.

Shelters for Comfort and Care

At G-Agri, the well-being of our animals is paramount. To protect our sheep from harsh weather conditions, we’ve built shelters across the farm. These structures offer a safe haven where the sheep can find cover during heavy rain, intense sun, or cold winds. By providing them with this extra layer of comfort, we ensure their health and happiness all year round.

To enhance their safety and well-being, we are currently constructing a more permanent sheep shelter and camp. This structure will serve as a central area where the sheep can be herded for various purposes, such as vet visits, shearing, lambing, and general care.

• Structure Details: The new shelter is built using wooden poles and metal fencing. These materials are secured into the ground with a trench filled with concrete, a measure specifically designed to prevent predators like foxes from digging underneath and posing a threat to our newborn lambs.
• Purpose: The permanent shelter will provide year-round protection for the flock, especially during lambing season, ensuring that mothers and newborns have a secure environment to bond and thrive.

Special Care for Mothers and Lambs

When lambs are born, we take extra precautions to ensure both the mothers and their babies receive the care and attention they need.

• Dedicated Lambing Shed: Newborn lambs and their mothers are moved to a special lambing shed where they are safe from predators and harsh weather.
• Extra Feeding and Monitoring: In this protected space, we provide additional feeding for the mothers to ensure they have enough nutrients to nurse their lambs. This shed also allows us to monitor the health and well-being of both the mother and the lamb, ensuring they receive immediate care if needed.
